Obituary For Stephen Kenneth Tuttle

Stephen Kenneth Tuttle, LCSW, 87, passed away peacefully at home on January 26, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family. By his side were his devoted wife, Gretchen, and his daughter, Hilary.

Stephen is survived by his beloved wife, Gretchen Morgan; daughter, Hilary Ricardo; son-in-law, Gabriel Ricardo; son, Jaipal Tuttle; sister, Candace Tuttle; niece, Caitlyn Toropova and nephew, Connor Toropova. He also leaves behind many nieces and extended family members on his wife’s side, all of whom he loved dearly.

Above all, Stephen adored his five grandchildren, who brought immeasurable joy to his life: Maximus Tuttle, Justine Tuttle, Avi Ricardo, Noah Ricardo, and Tessa Ricardo. He delighted in watching them grow and was a deeply involved and loving grandfather, immensely proud of each of them.

Born in Brooklyn, New York, Stephen moved with his parents to Los Angeles as a child and grew up in the greater Los Angeles area. After completing graduate school, he settled in Northern California, where he built both his professional life and his home.

For more than 50 years, Stephen worked as a licensed clinical social worker and psychotherapist—a vocation he considered a profound privilege. He often spoke about the honor of being entrusted with people’s pain and stories, and he approached his work with deep compassion, integrity, and respect. His commitment to helping others was not just a career, but a calling.

Stephen had a lifelong love of nature and found peace and joy in hiking, gardening, and traveling. Curious about life and the universe, he remained inquisitive and thoughtful throughout his years. His kindness, warmth, and deep empathy touched all who knew him.

The world was fortunate to have Stephen in it and he will be deeply missed.

An informal graveside service will be held at Morgan Oaks Eternal Preserve in Lincoln on Friday, April 3, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. All who knew and loved Stephen are welcome to attend.
