Obituary
Gigi was born a sweetheart. Born on Valentine’s Day, in the year 2014. Her Mommy did not get to find her until she was two years old. But, at two years old she was adopted by her Mommy. Her Mommy went to Grass Valley to help her grandson adopt a smooth Fox Terrier named Desmond. Mommy brought a crate so that Desmond could have a crate to go home in from the animal shelter. Little did Mommy know that she would also meet “Miss Gigi” that day. At the same shelter! So, Mommy adopted Miss Gigi, and had to get herself a different crate to transport Gigi back home to Lincoln.
So Mommy fell in love with Gigi at first sight! While waiting for her new grand-dog to be ready to go with her grandson, Mommy had told the shelter staff she had been thinking of getting a Beagle. So, she told them she would probably keep checking with them to see if they got one in. The shelter said, “Well, we have this pretty little Beagle who just came in. You can meet her, fill out an adoption application, and if it works out she won’t have to stay here another night!” So, Mommy went back to meet her, she gave a little whimper to her, and Mommy fell in love immediately! She called home, cleared it with (soon to be) “Daddy” and…he said yes, “bring her home!”
The rest is history! The history of a very well loved Beagle named “Gigi Gabor.” For over 10.5 years. She was immediately named Gigi for her red hair/hazel eyes like her Mom’s Grandma Gigi, who had the biggest heart in the world! Her middle name is after “The Gabor sisters”…because they were glamorous and Grandma Gigi’s “favs.”
Gigi was her Mom’s best friend, constant pal and companion. And her Mom did everything in her power to love and care for her. Devoted to her 24 hours a day. Her Mom and family are so thankful for all the great love and happiness she gave us all these years. She loved everyone in her family in their own unique ways! Mom was “Mommy,” a round-the-clock companion, servant and nurse! Gigi was so spoiled by Mom, Mom knew all her little sounds and what they meant. Even if it was something as simple as “tuck my blanket in, exactly how I want it!” Mom loved her little “Beagle piggy snorts,” her “purrs” (soft snores when she was content) and her “Beagle bays!”
Daddy was very important to Gigi. So important she didn’t want to get in the car till she knew he was safely in. And she didn’t want to eat her meals unless Daddy sat down (near) and ate a meal himself. She would keep checking (if he started eating) before she would touch her dog bowl!
She loved her Mom’s grandson Brendan, and he was the only person she made a point of “kissing right on the lips.” She loved all her Mom and Dad’s grandkids…but I think Brendan was “her guy.” He was the first person she saw (other than her Mom) the day she got adopted. So, she loved that boy (who was then 13) and continued to love him so dearly. He is now 23 years old!
She adored her human sisters, Christa and Marilyn. No matter how long it was since she (last) saw Christa, she would (uniquely) always wrap her paws around her tummy and give her a “tummy hug!” For her other sister (Marilyn) she liked to lay down and snuggle with her. We took some fun weekend adventures, and she would always want to curl up with Marilyn at night! She also loved her human brother Matthew, and I believe she is going to find him, and try to snuggle up with him in heaven!
Gigi loved going to the beach at Bodega Bay, and the Sonoma Coast, to escape from the summer heat in her town of Lincoln. She loved her hikes at Empire Mine in Grass Valley. And traveling to Reno/Sparks to hike around the Marina with her Mom and family. Taking short trips to Tahoe, Napa, Redding and Southern California. And her walks to downtown Lincoln, the airport area, and daily walks on the East Side of Lincoln.
Gigi enjoyed the loving care of her local Critter Creek veterinarian’s office for over 10 years. She truly loved the staff there and I believe she thought of them/loved them like “family.”
Thank you to Julia and the wonderful staff at Morgan Oaks Eternal Preserve for helping us lay her to rest with love at The Rainbow Bridge, at Morgan Oaks.
Our hearts will forever ache without our beloved Gigi. Till we meet again.
