Obituary For John Joseph Jucius Jr.

John Joseph Jucius, Jr., lovingly known also as JJ, passed away on February 16, 2026 in Roseville, California. He was born on November 9, 1953, in Windham, Connecticut.

John graduated from Parish Hill High School in Chaplin, Connecticut, in 1971, where he was a standout on the basketball court. After high school he joined the Army, proudly serving four years as a Military Policeman and Patrol Dog Handler before being honorably discharged. Ready to see the country, he set off in his 1974 1/2 Datsun 260Z to see where life would take him. A wrong turn in Atlanta somehow landed him in Montana, where he worked odd jobs until 1986. He returned to school at Montana State University, where he graduated with top honors from the MSU College of Business in 1990 and soon after passed the CPA exam.

John married Rosaleen Kovash under an old oak tree in Ft. Ogden, Florida after an 18 year engagement. They were married for 26 years and in love for 44. Though he never planned on children, he fell for a woman with kids and became the best dad and Grampa in the world.

John believed in service to others. He was always helping family, mowing neighborhood lawns, and regularly volunteered at polling centers around Sacramento County. He spent his lifetime always championing the underdog and encouraging others to walk to the beat of their own drums. He asked "why" with regularity, because he trusted that every problem had a root worth understanding. He loved his garden and his succulents, and shared starts with neighbors and strangers so they could love them too. He treasured family trips to Ft. Bragg, where he spent time walking the beaches at low tide with the grandkids and viewing sunsets from the bluffs over the ocean with his love, Rosaleen.

He is survived by his wife, Rosaleen; his daughter, Erin Brisbin; his son, Jeremiah Brisbin; his three grandchildren; his sisters, Judy Mahfood and Joan LaRue; and his brother, George Jucius. He was preceded in death by his parents, Marion and John Joseph Jucius, Sr.

Graveside services were held with military honors on February 27th at Morgan Oaks Eternal Preserve in Lincoln, CA.

A Celebration of Life will be held at the Roseville Veterans Memorial Hall Basement, 110 Park Drive, on Friday, September 18th, 2026, from 2 to 4 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Arbor Day Foundation or Best Friends Animal Society.
