Obituary For Fredrica "Freddie" Eldridge
Fredrica Eldridge, affectionately known as Freddie, was celebrated for her big smile, bright eyes, and welcoming warmth she exuded to everyone she met. Freddie’s heart was inclusive and created meaning with every human she came in contact with. Freddie passed away July 4, 2026, surrounded by her loving friends and son. She lived a full life with wonderful experiences and deep connections to her community.
Born Jacqueline Eldridge in Chicago, Illinois in 1947. She had a twin sister, Sandy and two brothers Ike and Butch. As a young woman, she headed west to California to lay down roots. After a brief couple years in Southern California where she married and had a son, Freddie moved to Sacramento where she lived for the last 40+ years. Freddie had a deep but distant connection with her son Locke. Living on the East Coast meant they did not physically see each other often, but they spoke almost weekly sharing vulnerable moments and struggles.
Following an early career as an LVN… Freddie became fascinated and passionate about healing through massage therapy. Her craft was more than just helping people through aches and pains… She was a healer… A therapist… And a confidant. She allowed people the space to share their struggles and challenges in life. She listened, shared advice, and accepted them for who they were and ultimately helped them feel better.
Freddie was always restless and a searcher… striving for greater purpose and meaning. She read countless books about spirituality, healing and death. She took trips to explore her own connections to God and other spiritual phenomenons… from the mountains of Machu Picchu, Peru, to the streets of Europe, the East Coast, and the California wilderness.
Freddie loved food. Anyone who knew her, knew how much she loved food. A fresh loaf of sourdough made by close friends or a couple slices of a classic Jewish rye Bread were Freddie’s weakness. She also loved grilled salmon from her dear friend Jennifer, a classic Sunday ritual for many years. Ribs from another dear friend, Angela, were always a birthday pick. Freddie often ate more than anyone expected. Her dear friend and neighbor Rema would regularly prepare a weekly roasted chicken that the two would enjoy. With all her food passion, Freddie was very conscientious of what she ate and where it came from. Her go to spots were the local Co-op and occasionally Trader Joe’s.
Freddie lived in full color. From how she dressed, to how she decorated her home, she loved color. Known for her vibrant unique glasses and kaleidoscope of clothing choices, Freddie was radiant everywhere and always lived to impart brightness onto others, to make them smile, and help them appreciate all the rainbows that exist in the world.
Fredrica is survived by her son, Locke Eldridge, his wife Julia Eldridge, and her beloved granddaughters, Ava and Kiera, who carry her light forward. She was preceded in death by her brothers Butch and Ike, her sister Sandy, and her parents, Haunchie and Max.
Fredrica leaves behind a legacy not of things, but of moments — of people who felt truly seen, heard, and loved because she was in their lives. Her color, her creativity, and her boundless generosity of spirit will continue to touch everyone who knew her.
